The domain
Château de Coussergues has been a family property since 1495, when the Sarret de Coussergues family settled on the estate. Located six kilometers from Béziers on the last hills overlooking the Mediterranean, the Château de Coussergues estate covers 600 hectares, including 120 hectares of vines, 200 of fields and 300 of woods. This ideal location favors the development of biodiversity and places the estate in the agroforestry tradition. In addition, two hillside lakes support the wildlife present on the estate.
In a spirit of respect for the terroir that gives birth to the estate's wines, the family has decided to obtain High Environmental Value certification thanks to actions to protect the nature, fauna and flora present on the property. This guarantees the development of organic matter, improves soil quality and optimizes pollination.
The clay-limestone soils are thus optimally nourished, enabling the cultivation of tasty, aromatic grapes in an ideal Mediterranean climate. All the estate's wines are classified as IGP Vin de Pays d'Oc and AOC Coteaux du Languedoc.
The wines
The Cuvée 1495 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Marselan and Syrah. The color is deep and intense, with ruby highlights. The nose gives off aromas of black fruits, cherries and ink. The palate is mellow and voluminous, with a fine tannic structure. This wine is ideal for traditionally cooked, stuffed poularde or pheasant.
Cuvée Merlot is, as its name suggests, a single-varietal Merlot. Round and mellow on the palate, the wine offers lovely sweetness and a fruity attack, mainly marked by blackberry jam and dark chocolate.
Cuvée Château de Coussergues is a blend of Syrah and Grenache, offering a deeply dark, intense color. On the nose, we find notes of candied fruit, spices, pepper... and finally woody notes and garrigue. The palate is smooth and full-bodied, with a seductive tannic structure on the finish. This wine is the ideal accompaniment to a fine piece of barbecued beef.
Cuvée Chardonnay Viognier is predominantly Chardonnay (70%). The color is golden yellow, and the nose offers generous sweetness (pear and white fruit). On the palate, we find notes of vine peach, almond and white flowers. The whole is sublimated by a beautiful amplitude. A good match for fish, a seafood platter or exotic cuisine.
Cuvée Sauvignon is a blend of Sauvignon (85%) and Colombard (15%). Pale in color with green highlights, and with a racy nose marked by boxwood, lime and blackcurrant buds, this dry white wine is taut and invigorating, with a hint of zest to spice things up. A good white wine to accompany a seafood platter, cod or goat's cheese.
The Domaine de Coussergues Rosé is vinified from a single variety of Cabernet Franc. The color is a very pale pink, characteristic of a true fresh wine with strong drinkability throughout the day. Its aromas of tart berries and flowers make it an ideal aperitif wine, which can also be enjoyed with barbecued lamb kebabs.
