The winemaker
Located in the commune of Beauvoisin, at the southern end of the Rhône Valley, Château de Bellefontaine is run by two passionate managers who have restored the prestige of the Costières de Nîmes appellation. Surrounded by a team of committed and warm-hearted winemakers, they will provide you with a great tasting experience and will be delighted to welcome you within their walls to their gîte.
The Château de Bellefontaine vineyards are ideally situated facing the ponds of the Camargue and in direct proximity to the Mediterranean Sea. This is where Costières de Nîmes vines first appeared in the 19th century. In those days, vineyard workers lived in the middle of the fields, and this is how the Château de Bellefontaine estate came into being. The estate's buildings were erected as close as possible to the spring that gave the estate its name. The fountain no longer exists, but the legacy of the past remains. In 2010, the Bosse-Platière and Soulairac families acquired the land with a view to modernizing both the vineyard and the buildings, in order to revive the agricultural tool and produce a quality wine. Today, Elise Bosse-Platière and Yann Soulairac, the children of the purchasers, manage the estate from a technical and commercial point of view. Following their training in the wine industry, these two enthusiasts are determined to make Château de Bellefontaine a haven for all local wine lovers in search of a viticultural getaway.
With so much potential in the vineyard, it seemed obvious to the new generation to convert the vines to organic farming in order to preserve the estate's ecosystem and produce top-flight cuvées. What's more, the practice of parcel-by-parcel selection brings out the best in the different terroirs of the estate and the appellation. Its privileged exposure, Mediterranean climate cooled by the Mistral wind, and characteristic terroir of rolled pebbles make it the ideal environment in which to grow vines and allow local grape varieties to flourish.
These include the typical Grenache, Syrah and Marselan, which are used in the blending of red wines. For whites, the main grape varieties are Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Vermentino. Most of the estate's wines belong to the Costières de Nîmes appellation, the southernmost in the Rhône Valley, but some are vinified as IGP Pays d'Oc. The estate's reds are aromatic, modern and elegant, while the whites are characterized by their freshness and delicacy. As for the rosés, their fruity notes will accompany your summer festivities.
The Château de Bellefontaine welcomes you, both for your vacation stays in their manor house or gîte, designed to bring you peace and quiet, and for your personal and professional events. The reception cellar is the perfect venue for weddings, christenings, seminars, etc. The property's idyllic setting will delight your guests!
