The winemaker
Of course, one could tell, as is customary, here they make wine for millennia. In addition it is not really fake, everyone knows that the Romans had settled in the area one of the larger villae. What is more original, however, is how Michael Escande became winemaker. It's called a late vocation ... A priori, nothing destined to the priesthood, if not the call of the earth. Thus, in 1989 Michel Escande drops his other passion, sailing, to return home. And it borrows to 5 hectares of vineyards, a cellar and a beautiful building but "tired"; by the way, he decides to take care of the family vineyards. With the tenacity of the marine and faith of the peasant, Michel will teach its soil, to listen, to discover that he has a real treasure. What his vintages, starting with Sulla praised by the international press, will not delay in showing, in the early 90s Until we nicknamed in the wine world, "the wizard of Félines " If Borie de Maurel is now a large area - 35 hectares of vineyards in operation, both in scrub and scrub - everything remained as the first day. As Felines, Mondovino, international capital, the stock market ... not know: here, everything is family. Michel Escande and his eldest son Gabriel, assisted by Paco Ortega Guiterrez, care of the vineyards and the cellar while his younger Maxime provides home ownership, management and sales tracking. At Borie de Maurel, of course, all wine-acts are manuals, plowing to harvesting, which takes place "traditionally" good fortnight after the usual dates to pick perfectly ripe grapes.
