Domaine Labet
(3 customer reviews)
The Labet estate is a family story, that of a couple, Alain and Josie, who were passionate about working with vines and who passed on this love to their children. Their son created his own domain, then the two properties were combined into one and they were joined in this adventure by their two other children: Charline and Romain. The Labet family is now working together to offer surprising wines.
The domain produces mainly white wines and has chosen a Burgundian approach, with vintages from a single grape variety. Find out more

The winemaker
The Winery
Located in the Jura in Rotalier, in the South-Revermont, Alain Labet's estate was founded in 1974 with a vineyard of nine hectares. Julien worked with his parents and then created a three-hectare estate that he chose to run under organic viticulture.
It was in 2013 that the family decided to work hand in hand by bringing the two estates together. The Labet estate is now managed by Julien Labet, in collaboration with his brother Romain and his sister Charline.
The property is made up of 45 parcels on nearly 13 hectares of exceptional land. The vines are spread over thirteen lieux-dits in four different communes. Three hectares have organic certification and the rest are in conversion.
In addition, the vineyard is home to exceptional old vines in massal selection, aged between 50 and 100 years. White grape varieties, nearly 80% Chardonnay and the rest Savagnin, account for 11 hectares on the estate and two hectares are planted with red grape varieties. Pinot Noir and Poulsard account for nearly 65% equally, there is also 20% Trousseau and 15% Gamay noir à jus blanc.
The skills
The estate has made the choice to favor parcel-based vintages. This is a real specificity of the Labet estate. Each parcel-based cuvée is thus made from a single vineyard. The objective is to favor the expression of a terroir, a place, a soil and of course, a grape variety. And like the Burgundian crus, these vintages bear the name of the places from which they come.
The fermentation is made only with indigenous yeasts and these yeasts vary from one plot and one vine to another. They each contribute to the expression of the wine, to its own personality.
The wines
The domain produces mainly white wines orillés, but also red wines among the best of the Jura region. Labet is one of the architects of the region's revival of quality wine production and makes about 30 cuvées each year, including 18 plot-based cuvées.
The Fleur cuvée is 100% Chardonnay, but it is made from a blend of several parcels. It is a wine with a beautiful aromatic complexity.
Fleur de Savagnin vintage 2018 is a white wine in the Côtes du Jura PDO appellation. The cuvée is made from a blend of two grape varieties: the Green Savagnin and the Yellow Savagnin. It is an expressive and rich wine with crispness. While Domaine Labet's white wines benefit from spending a few years in the cellar, Fleur is a cuvée that can also be enjoyed in its youth.
Among the parcel-based cuvées, for example, Montceau 2016 is a rich, fruity wine with substance and notes of fresh butter and toasted hazelnuts.
Domaine de Labet also offers two sweet wines La Paille Perdue and Passerillé d'Ambre. They are grown in the old-fashioned way as straw wines were, with drying for nearly 6 months of the finest bunches on straw in a well-ventilated granary. They then benefit from a long fermentation of more than 2 years and a maturation of at least 3 years. The resulting wine has a high sugar concentration.
