In the village of pupillin, jean-michel petit and his wife laurence petit began the domaine de la renardière in 1990, taking over 1 hectare of vines from jean-michel's parents, themselves winegrowers. Then, year after year, they rented or bought other small plots of vines, until they reached their current 7 hectares. Seven is a good number. Indeed, the winegrowing couple are determined to keep the estate on a human scale, so as to be able to take good care of it. The thirty-year-old vines are pampered without chemicals, pruned short and harvested by hand. In the cellar, the two winemakers accompany the wine with a minimum of intervention, and only allow themselves a small dose of sulfite as their sole input. The 7ha of organically-farmed vines are planted on a soil composed mainly of red marl (a mixture of clay and limestone ideal for the production of fine, elegant wines). The estate features classic Jura grape varieties: savagnin, ploussard, pinot noir, trousseau and chardonnay.
