4.5
(16 customer reviews)
Nicolas Mariotti Bindi has been described as "the standard-bearer of the organic generation" by the Revue du Vin de France, and is one of the great hopefuls of the new generation of island winegrowers. Having cut his teeth in the Beaujolais region, then with Antoine Arena, he is now vineyard manager at Domaine Leccia and personally manages 5 hectares of organic vines. Find out more

The winemaker

History of the estate

The Nicolas Mariotti Bindi estate is above all a dream, a passion. After studying law in Paris, Nicolas Mariotti Bindi decided to return to his native village in Corsica to live out his passion for the vine.

In 2007, he produced his first vintage. Since 2015, he has been based at his winery in Oletta, where he cultivates 15 hectares of vines organically. Of course, before taking off, Nicolas spent time in Beaujolais in the Moulin à vent appellation, with Antoine Arena and then Muriel Giudicelli in Patrimonio, then finally at Domaine Leccia as vineyard manager.

Since 2016, the estate has extended plots to accommodate the Lumiu plot, on which late harvest vermentinu is produced: Malavasia Passitu. This year also marks the transition from 7.5 hectares to 15 hectares of vines.

Terroir

Nicolas Mariotti Bindi's vineyards stretch over clay-limestone hillsides (for the parcel-based cuvées Mursaglia, Lumiu and Cantina di Torra), and a plain of ancient alluvium (for the cuvée Porcellese).

His 15-hectare estate is entirely farmed organically, with each parcel worked according to a personalized process to produce wines that best express the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand and packed in medium-sized crates to avoid damage.

In the cellar, vinification is natural, and sulfur is used only in limited doses, announced on the label. Copper use is also very limited, never exceeding 3 kg/ha/year.

Wines

The white grapes are whole-cluster pressed and very lightly settled. They ferment naturally for over a month, and are then aged between 12 and 24 months in stainless steel tanks on fine lees, depending on the cuvée. The wines are not filtered before bottling.

The black grapes are destemmed and macerated for 48 hours in pre-fermentation. They then ferment naturally for less than a month. The Mursaglia and Porcellese cuvées are unfiltered.
