The history of Domaine Vico

Domaine Vico was founded by Jean Vico in 1901. He chose this terroir in central Corsica for its unique geological and climatic combination. With an extremely varied, rugged and tormented terroir, as well as highly contrasting weather, Domaine Vico has been producing highly specific cuvées since its inception.

In 1987, the Vico family sold the estate. It is now owned by François Acquaviva, Jean-Marc and Manu Venturi.

The Domaine Vico vineyard

The Domaine Vico vineyard extends over 49 hectares, in central Corsica at altitudes between 260 and 360 meters. The vines are overlooked by peaks rising to an altitude of 2,000 meters. The soil is composed of schist, basalt, granite and rolled pebbles.

Domaine Vico's vineyard covers 36 hectares planted with red grapes and 13 hectares with white. The red grape varieties are Sciacarellu (45%), Nielluciu (30%), Syrah (10%), Grenache Noir (10%) and Carcaghjolu Neru (5%); the white grape varieties are Malvasia (70%), Muscat à petits grains blancs (10%), Biancu Gentile (10%), with various white grape varieties making up the remaining 10%.

The average age of the vines is 38 years. Average annual production is 250,000 bottles.

Domaine Vico is run with the greatest respect for the environment and biodiversity. The particular mountainous geography creates operating constraints, but the ambition of its winemakers is to combine tradition and modernity, while respecting the grapes.

The wines of Domaine Vico

Domaine Vico offers 4 ranges of wines. What they have in common is that they combine continental freshness and tension with a certain southern ripeness, conferred by a very atypical terroir of mountains and valleys, and very contrasting weather. The 4 ranges are :

Domaine Vico, in 3 dresses;
Domaine Vico Collection, in all 3 dresses;
Miss Rose, rosé ;
Clos Sulana, red or rosé.

Domaine Vico Rouge
Domaine Vico red Corsican wine is a blend of 70% Niellucciu, 20% Sciaccarellu and 10% Syrah.

The majority Nielluccio gives the wine delicious finesse and perfect balance. The wine is fruity, dominated by aromas of red berries. Finely spiced, with hints of licorice. Supple on the palate, with fine, savory tannins.

Domaine Vico Blanc

Domaine Vico white Corsican wine is made entirely from Vermentinu. This grape variety gives it an intense bouquet, blending aromas of fruit and white flowers. The palate is voluptuous and always fresh.

Domaine Vico Rosé

Domaine Vico rosé is a blend of 70% Niellucciu, 20% Grenache and 10% Sciaccarellu. Fruity on the nose, dominated by citrus and red fruit on the palate. The wine is smooth and harmonious, with a few spicy notes at the end.
