The winemaker
A history of men and land
Behind the Casanova brand is the Cave Coopérative d'Aghione, founded in 1975 by 12 winegrowing families. With 850 hectares of vineyards in three distinct terroirs (Aghione with sandy soils, Alzitone with clay soils and Leptinique with a rocky, mountainous subsoil), the cooperative is a major economic player on the island. In 2006, 41 years after the creation of the Cave Coopérative, the Casanova brand was born. Through this brand, the Vignerons d'Aghione seek above all to highlight the richness of Corsica's terroir through traditional wines as well as surprising new ones.
The cooperative winegrowers, through various eco-responsible initiatives such as the grassing of plots, were the first in Corsica to obtain Emergence GIEE recognition. They have also joined the Vignerons Engagés collective, the wine industry's leading CSR network, and obtained HVE certification for 25% of their vineyards. Added to this is EVE VEGAN certification and the organic conversion of a winegrower, a test for the whole cooperative.
A wide range of products
Domaine Casanova produces a wide range of wines based on island grape varieties such as Nielluccu, Sciaccarellu and Vermentinu. Sparkling wines include Muscatu Frizzante, Aria and Excellence, with their natural bubbles obtained using ancestral winemaking methods. Among still wines, Casanova offers reds, whites and rosés. The Casanova ranges, from Casanova Premium to A Rena d'Oru and Costa d'Oru, all have their own distinctive characteristics. Blends vary, as do vinification and harvesting methods. This enables Domaine Casanova to offer both premium and local wines.
A pioneering spirit
Innovation is the spearhead of Domaine Casanova. For example, 20. Orange, the first sulfite-free orange wine, is a novel concept offered by the Vignerons d'Aghione. A member of the "vins étonnants" range, 20. Orange is accompanied by Cuve Ex17 (a preservative-free rosé) and Vindigène (produced exclusively with an indigenous Corsican grape variety). In 2007, the cooperative also marketed the first Corsican rosé gris, Tendance Casanova, which quickly became one of the brand's best sellers.
But Domaine Casanova is not just a pioneer in the production of new wines. The brand is also very present on social networks, through several innovative marketing campaigns. The latest of these, #CASANOVASTORIES, offers its community a playful journey through Instagram: web users are invited to choose from two "tags" under each post to continue their experience of raising awareness of responsible consumption. After #diycasanova, 4 videos teaching how to reuse empty bottles and corks, Domaine Casanova reaffirms its commitment to the eco-responsible and innovative era.
