Domaine Alzipratu
(12 customer reviews)
Since 1969, the Alzipratu estate has been producing fine, well-balanced wines in Haute Corse, in the AOP Corse Calvi. The family estate was founded by Maurice Acquaviva in 1968, when he joined forces with Baron de La Grange, owner of the Alzipratu convent.
Since 1991, the estate has been run by his son Pierre Acquaviva, who took over ownership in 1992. The initial vineyard covered 16 hectares, and today comprises 40 hectares of vines spread over three communes: Calenzana, Zilia and Moncale. Find out more

The winemaker
The winery
Located at the foot of Monte Grossu, but also just a few minutes from the Mediterranean coast, the wine estate benefits from a dual mountain and sea influence. The sea air and the proximity of the Mediterranean provide plenty of sunshine, while the surrounding relief favors regular rainfall and humidity favorable to good vine growth. The soils are mainly composed of various types of colluvium and granitic arena.
Farming methods are based on respect for the environment and the terroir. The estate is in the process of converting to organic viticulture.
Varieties
The estate's grape varieties are varied, mainly Corsican island varieties and old vines. The majority are Niellucciu, a black Italian grape often planted in Corsica, which produces fine wines with a fruity, aromatic bouquet and notes of spices, maquis flowers and coffee.
The estate also boasts native Corsican grape varieties, including Sciaccarellu, Biancu Gentile, Minustellu and Aleaticu, as well as Vermentinu, a grape producing exceptional white wines, and Grenache and Syrah, varieties widely grown around the Mediterranean.
The wines
The domaine offers a range of 11 wines in all three colors in the vin de Calvi appellation. The reds are made from Niellucciu, Grenache and Sciaccarellu, grape varieties with a racy character that offer fine, elegant wines marked by aromas of red fruit and pepper.
The estate's rosés are authentic vins de terroir, and Alzipratu also offers Calvi white wines that are both powerful and soft with gourmet notes, made from blends of Vermentinu and Bianco Gentile.
Pumonte rosé is a fresh, delicate wine, with notes of roses and citrus. The cuvée is also available in white with Pumonte blanc, a saline, gourmet wine made from 100% vermentinu with aromas of lemon and white peach. Finally Pumonte rouge is an intense, fruity red wine. The palate offers beautiful complexity, both generous and fine, with tannins that are present, yet velvety and supple.
FiumeSeccu is also offered in all three colors. FiumeSeccu blanc is a well-balanced mineral wine offering an aromatic bouquet that blends almond, apple and white flowers. The FiumeSeccu rosé cuvée is a fine wine with fruity aromas of red fruits and grapefruit, made with equal parts Sciaccarellu, Niellucciu and Grenache. FiumeSeccu rouge is a crisp, fruity wine with a spicy note.
