The history of Clos Venturi

Clos Venturi is the only Corsican vineyard located in the center of the island. It lies at the crossroads of the roads to Bastia, Ajaccio and Calvi. The original Clos Venturi vineyard was planted in 1901 by Jean Vico. In 1987, the estate was taken over by the Acquaviva-Venturi family, who have run it ever since.

In 1989, the estate and its facilities were renovated and modernized. Clos Venturi is treated as a separate estate within Domaine Vico.

The Clos Venturi vineyard

The Clos Venturi vineyard covers 31 hectares (15 hectares for reds and 16 hectares for whites). Its original location makes it the Corsican terroir furthest from the sea, as well as one of the highest. As the vineyard lies on a geological fault, it is made up of a multitude of soils. The mountain climate enhances the aromas of the berries, which are exacerbated by the wide temperature variations.

The average age of the vines is around 30 years. With the exception of Syrah, they are made up of indigenous grape varieties. The use of Corsican grape varieties makes it possible to produce a truly typical wine, imbued with the specific characteristics of the island's terroir.

The total number of grape varieties is as follows: - Red grape varieties: Sciacarellu (50%), Niellucciu (30%), Carcaghjolu neru (5%), Aleatico (3%), Minustellu (5%), Morescone (2%), Syrah (5%). - White grape varieties: Biancu gentile (10%), Genovese (10%), Malvasia (60%), Divers blanc (20%).

The modernization that has taken place over time does not, however, mean mechanization. The grapes are harvested by hand, and some of the work in the vineyard is carried out by draught horse. The vines are treated biodynamically, preserving the true essence of the berries.

Since 2015, Clos Venturi has been recognized as HVE, High Environmental Value. It is the only estate on the Isle of Beauty to benefit from this certification. To constantly improve their production, the Acquaviva-Venturi family has implemented a strategy of in-depth geological soil analysis on each plot, in order to adapt the grape varieties according to the properties of the terroir and its state of exhaustion.

The Clos Venturi wines

Clos Venturi Blanc

Clos Venturi Blanc is a very fruity, greedy wine, always with elegant finesse. It has a golden yellow color, a flowery nose and an explosive attack on the palate. It is ideal for seafood and fish dishes, as well as white meats.

Clos Venturi Rouge

Clos Venturi rouge is the wine for barbecues and planchas. Very fruity, it also exhales aromas of licorice and spices. Its fine tannins make it soft, yet energetic.
