The winemaker

The history of Nicolas Feuillatte

Born in Paris on January 29, 1926, Nicolas Feuillatte grew up in a family of merchants. At the end of the Second World War, he left France for the United States, where he worked for many years as a coffee merchant. He returned in 1972 and settled in Chouilly in the Marne, where he bought a vineyard with his brother. He then began producing the champagne to which he gave his name.

The Centre Vinicole

Nicolas Feuillatte meets Henri Macquart, founder of the Centre Vinicole de la Champagne. This center is one of the region's most important cooperatives. In 1986, Nicolas Feuillatte gave his name to the Union des Producteurs de Champagne de Chouilly. This name would enable the Center to gain recognition on the French market as well as on the international scene. At the Centre Vinicole de la Champagne - Nicolas Feuillatte, 5,000 winegrowers look after 2,250 hectares of vines, the average age of which is 35 years. Harvesting has been done by hand for almost 50 years. The Centre's grape varieties are white Chardonnay, black Pinot and Meunier.

Thanks to their geographical location, the vines benefit from a relatively degraded oceanic climate and a semi-continental climate. The soil of the Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte estate has a variable chalky composition, and the estate practices integrated viticulture to guarantee soil quality and sustainability. Nicolas Feuillatte is also known for its various cuvées, such as Cuvée Spéciale Blanc de blancs, a cuvée made exclusively from chardonnay grapes that brings citrus aromas to the champagne.

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte

Nicolas Feuillatte champagne is the world's best-selling champagne, behind Moët and Clicquot. It wants to make itself accessible and modern. The Centre Vinicole brings together a majority of Champagne's winegrowing cooperatives. In concrete terms, it comprises 84 wineries and 4,500 winegrowers. To these must be added 1,000 winegrowers from the Union des producteurs particuliers, who contribute 44% of the brand's supplies. Some of the production from these 2,250 hectares is sold to members, while the rest is used to make Nicolas Feuillatte brand wines.

The brand marks the most spectacular commercial breakthrough in Champagne history. Largely sold in supermarkets, it aims to emphasize modernity. David Henault, the new cellar master, likes less mature wines and wants to emphasize Pinot Noir. He embodies the brand's strengths and values.

The strength of Nicolas Feuillatte

Promoting values of generosity and boldness, the Nicolas Feuillatte brand wants to celebrate life's beautiful moments with emotion and intensity, offering precious moments to all. Nicolas Feuillatte cuvées are the result of the expertise and hard work of our winegrowers, chiselled by our Cellar Master, and represent the expertise, finesse, precision and elegance of this House.
