The winemaker

The history of Champagne Delamotte

François Delamotte, then a vineyard owner, founded his Champagne house in 1760. Born in Reims in 1722, he became a councillor-echevin and captain of the bourgeois militia. When he set up his Champagne house, he chose a building on the corner of Rue Cérès and Rue des Marmousets, where his townhouse stood, but also, and more importantly, above the cellars. François chose his own name and christened his house Champagne Delamotte.

To this name he adds his family coat of arms, whose motto is "Vive et me ama", "Live and love me". He then joined forces with his eldest son Alexandre to create Delamotte Père & Fils. His second son, Nicolas, joined them in 1798. He was responsible for expanding the marketing of the house's wines. He distributes Delamotte Champagne throughout Europe, and then to more distant lands.

Champagne Delamotte is then taken over by Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, née Lanson. Her descendant, Charles, took over from 1948 to 1988. Champagne Delamotte and Champagne Salon then joined forces. In 1988, Bernard de Nonancourt formed the Laurent-Perrier group, to which both houses belong. Since 1997, Didier Depond has been at the helm.

Delamotte champagnes

Delamotte Brut champagne

Champagne Delamotte Brut is made from 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. Chardonnay establishes the basis of structure, Pinot Noir provides depth and fruity aroma, and Pinot Meunier aromatic density. Champagne Delamotte Brut is fresh and round, with a long, fruity finish. Best served at 8°C to enjoy its exceptionally pure nose. You'll detect notes of citrus, white flowers and lemon peel.

Champagne Delamotte Brut is best enjoyed as an aperitif, with cheese gougères and parmesan tuiles. For dinner, it's perfect with cheese soufflé or paella. It's best served with low-sugar desserts, such as fresh fruit salad.

Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Millesimé

Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Millésimé is made entirely from Chardonnay. It takes its time to age for several years - six on average - on its lees. The wine's fine, lively bubbles enhance its nose, with aromas of lemon, English candy and lychee. The long, mineral finish is punctuated by bitter orange zest.

Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Millésimé excels alongside scallop carpaccio, oysters or salmon terrine. Or pair it with fine Italian charcuterie, such as a large Parma ham or Culatello.
