The winemaker
The history of Champagne Xavier Loriot
Champagne Xavier Loriot was founded in 1891. It was established on a family vineyard that has been handed down from generation to generation. From the first owner, George Jobert, to Charlène Loriot, its current manager, five generations have succeeded one another.
Champagne Xavier Loriot is keen to maintain its status as an independent winegrower, which is why it only produces wines from its own estate. To preserve its freedom, the estate has equipped itself with its own press and 1,200 hectoliter stainless steel and enamel vat room. As a result, Charlène Loriot is fully in charge of designing the cuvées.
The Champagne Xavier Loriot vineyard
The vineyards of Champagne Xavier Loriot extend over ten hectares, right in the heart of the Marne Valley. The vines occupy the right bank of the Marne, around the picturesque Champagne villages of Binson and Orquigny. All the vines are south-facing, allowing them to take full advantage of the sunshine. The soils are predominantly limestone and clay.
Champagne Xavier Loriot uses the three Champagne grape varieties in its blends: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Pinot Meunier largely dominates the proportions, lending the champagne its roundness, along with elegance and finesse. It also delivers on the promise of a long finish.
The estate is run using integrated farming methods. Inputs are limited and the emphasis is on natural treatments. Each year, a certain number of vines are uprooted, after a careful study to determine which should be replaced by new vines. This allows us to remove only those vines that are too old and/or too weak to be productive, without destroying the entire plot. This ensures that only the best vines produce the best grapes.
The Champagne Xavier Loriot cuvées
Collision Meunier Brut
Collision Meunier Brut is made entirely from Meunier grapes. It has a golden yellow color with straw yellow highlights. The nose blends aromas of passion fruit, warm apple, quince jam and mandarin orange. Other floral and fruit notes soon follow: mirabelle plum, orange blossom, cherry, pear, lime blossom, pineapple and peach. The palate is fleshy and luscious, imbued with orange and mandarin. A fine minerality emerges beneath the fruity volume, along with a very fresh, iodized salinity. The finish is long and tender.
Hypnotic Brut
Cuvée Hypnotic Brut is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Meunier and 30% Pinot Noir. It is a complex, expressive and airy wine. The champagne has a luminous color, with yellow-green hues and lemon-yellow highlights. The nose is bursting with passion fruit, tangerine, lemon, mirabelle plum, acacia honey and quince jam.
The palate is fresh, with a delicious creamy effervescence. It is fruity, backed by a hint of lemony acidity. The finish is rich and long.
