The winemaker
History
The Le Brun de Neuville house is the result of a crossroads of several destinies. It was indeed built through men and women whose vocation was to make great wines. All wanting to contribute their stones to the edifice, they came together to go further.
Here we are a few decades back, 1963 to be more precise. In the village of Bethon, families of wine growers were selling their grapes to other organizations. Tired of this and with the goal of acquiring more efficient tools, several winegrowers gathered under the same banner and thus created the origins of Le Brun de Neuville. Initially, 28 winegrowers with a passion for wine met to communicate on winemaking techniques but also to help each other with equipment.
With time, this real family grew and saw dozens of winegrowers join it to reach a number of 170 today. Sharing their knowledge and know-how, they allow Le Brun de Neuville to produce fabulous wines that exceed the expectations of tasters around the world every year.
It is with great fervor for wine that these winemakers reveal the oh-so-important potential of Chardonnay, which is very present in this part of Champagne to produce Blanc de Blancs.
Together, we go further
Chardonnay in fact represents 90% of Le Brun de Neuville's vineyard. The remaining 10% of its 152 hectares is composed solely of Pinot Noir, which completes as a red grape variety. Planted for more than 40 years in the hollow of the Sézanne hillside, the vines are installed on a diversity of crus (12 to be exact) with their own characteristics.
The côte de Sézanne also has its own particularities, notably with a soil of high porosity storing water to create a reserve. This water will be used by the vine throughout the year to maintain a sufficient supply of nutrients. Add to this a perfectly adapted sun exposure and you get quality grapes.
Sustainable viticulture is also an important commitment for Le Brun de Neuville. Together, the winemakers have earned High Environmental Value certification, which prohibits the use of herbicides and requires mechanical weeding. It is on these more environmentally friendly practices that the house wants to emphasize its actions.
In the cellar, the winemaking teams are busy revealing the richness of the terroir and the Chardonnay. Fantastic Blanc de Blancs, playing on finesse and elegance, are born each year... This is simply the fruit of a collective effort to transmit excellence.
