History
It's fair to say that the Lamiable family has deep roots in Champagne. Indeed, it has been established in Tours-sur-Marne for several centuries, the 15th to be precise. In those years, they weren't particularly focused on vineyards, but already had their hands in the soil.
For the vineyard, we had to wait until 1950, because even though the current residence was built by Hyppolite Lamiable in 1859, the estate didn't focus on vines until the 20th century. In 1950, two brothers, Auguste and Pierre Lamiable, dug out the cellars and built the first winemaking and storage facility, laying the foundations for the house we know today.
In 1955, the first harvest of grapes from Tours-sur-Marne at a place called "Les Meslaines" arrived in the newly-built cellar. The pace quickened with the purchase of the first wine press in 1960, marking the desire for improvement and, above all, independence. From then on, champagne was produced at home!
In 1972, another arrival marked the history of the estate, that of Jean-Pierre Lamiable. He took over the running of the estate and greatly developed the reputation of Champagne Lamiable. An outstanding salesman, he sells his champagne all over France, conveying his passion for it.
Taking up the torch
Since then, Jean-Pierre Lamiable has passed the torch to his daughters, Ophélie and Orianne. The first specializes in oenology, bringing the house signature to winemaking. The second, on the other hand, is focused on business and economic management, and has great responsibility for ensuring that the family tradition continues.
This continuity is also evident in the vines, which are only lightly treated. For some 20 years now, the estate has been using a natural biological method to combat grape worms, known as "sexual confusion". What's more, work in the vineyards is also adapted to reduce the need for treatments.
Located some thirty kilometers from Reims, Maison Lamiable is in the heart of the Champagne capital. The majority of its plots are located in Tours-sur-Marne and Bouzy, on terroirs where the quality of the grapes is judged as Grand Cru or Premier Cru. Pinot noir is the most common grape variety, accounting for 60% of the 6 hectares. The remaining plots are divided between Chardonnay (35%) and Petit Meslier (5%).
Some parcels are also well known, such as "Les Meslaines", a locality where, remember, the first harvest of the Lamiable house took place. The vines are consequently old, and produce a pinot noir of great quality. "La Vigne Goësse" is a 100% Chardonnay parcel located on the Côte des Blancs, which enables the estate to vinify superb blanc de blancs champagnes. A favorite of many tasters!
