The winemaker
The history of the Joseph Perrier Champagne house
Joseph Perrier was born in Châlons en Champagne in 1795, into a large family of Champagne wine merchants. In 1825, he created the Champagne house in his own name.
It should be noted that he is not related to Pierre-Romain Perrier, the founder of a champagne house in Épernay in 1811, now known as Perrier-Jouët.
The Perrier family was involved in local life, while at the same time striving to make the Champagne region known worldwide for its sparkling wine. From 1854 to 1860, Joseph Perrier was mayor of Châlons en Champagne (then called Châlons sur Marne). His brother was also involved in politics. He was mayor of the same town from 1867 to 1875, as well as a member of parliament.
On his death in 1870, Joseph passed on the Champagne Joseph Perrier house to his direct heirs, and the Perriers have thus ensured the continuity of their forefather's savoir-faire for five generations.
The Champagne Joseph Perrier estate
The Champagne Joseph Perrier estate covers 23 hectares, situated on a hillside in the heart of the Champagne region, on the right bank of the Marne Valley. The vineyards are located around Hautvillers, Chouilly and Cumières, classified villages surrounded by grape varieties classified as Grands Crus and Premiers Crus. The vineyards are mainly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, complemented by Pinot Meunier. The vineyard is treated with the greatest care, thanks to a balanced and reasoned culture.
Champagne Joseph Perrier has superb Gallo-Roman cellars, where the cuvées are aged in the best possible conditions. Three-quarters of Champagne Joseph Perrier's production is exported.
Champagne Joseph Perrier cuvées
Champagne Joseph Perrier - Cuvée Royale Brut Nature
Cuvée Royale Brut Nature is a blend of 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier. It is 24% reserve wine and aged on lees for 72 months. Cuvée Royale Brut Nature is a deep, vermilion-gold color. Its fine mousse enhances its delicate floral aromas of rose and peony. The cuvée also releases intense spicy fragrances.
Cuvée Royale Brut Nature is perfect as an aperitif. Serve it ideally between 8 and 10°C, chilled in an ice bucket. You can continue your meal with a starter of raw fish and shellfish. The cuvée is also ideal with Asian cuisine.
Champagne Joseph Perrier - Cuvée Royale Brut Rosé
Cuvée Royale Brut Rosé is made from 25% Chardonnay, 75% Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, including around 12% Cumières red wine. The plot of Pinot de Cumières has belonged to Champagne Joseph Perrier since its creation. It's nicknamed "La chèvre" (the goat), and it's its precious red wine that gives the brut rosé its uniqueness.
The nose is full of red fruit, with hints of wild violets and licorice. The palate is lively and finishes with fine menthol notes. This champagne will delight your guests as an aperitif, and works wonders alongside white meat dishes and desserts with little sugar.
