Champagne Fleury

4
(15 customer reviews)
A history that dates back more than a century, in the heart of the southern Champagne region, in the Côte des Bars. Today, it is the 4th generation that holds the reins of this magnificent estate. The aromatic complexity that characterises Champagne Fleury comes from its vinification. Indeed, the latter is carried out in Burgundy barrels which have seen more than one wine and which contribute to this so particular aroma. The Fleury family has even set up a tasting and scoring system, so as to know what each barrel brings, and to discard what does not live up to their expectations Find out more

The winemaker

The short history of Champagne Fleury

It all began in 1895, on the clay-limestone slopes formed in the Kimmeridgian period by the first tributaries of the Seine. It was south of Troyes, in the town of Courteron, that the Fleury family started to cultivate a vineyard. After several years, it is Jean-Pierre Fleury, accompanied by his daughter and two sons, who is at the helm of this estate.

The latter has carried out ecological research in order to evolve his method of cultivation. Thanks to this, he became the first estate in Champagne to convert to biodynamic farming in 1989. Jean-Pierre Fleury quickly became the pioneer of this fashion in Champagne. And he did not stop there, as he continues to raise awareness of this method of production among winegrowers.

His vineyard

Anchored in the heart of the southern Champagne region, the vineyard extends over some 15 hectares, located on the slopes of the valleys shaped by these ancient rivers. Its vines are south-southwest facing and in order to maintain their quality and dynamism, the family replants new vines every year. The grape variety is divided into several categories:

Pinot Noir (85%)
Pinot Blanc (historical grape variety in Champagne)

Pinot Gris (replanted in 2010)

Pinot Meunier

The subsoil of this vineyard is mainly marly limestone, an ideal soil for vines, with naturally draining slopes. "For the vine, the subsoil is much more important than the soil itself, it has a direct influence on the wines. "

Family work

Champagne Fleury is a great family story. Indeed, Jean-Pierre Fleury is accompanied by three of his children to make exceptional vintages. We have Jean-Sébastien who is responsible for the vinification in the cellar, in accordance with the specifications of organic viticulture.

Benoît is responsible for the biodynamic vineyard. He works to improve the biology of the soils as well as biodiversity. Since 2009, Morgane has been running "Ma Cave Fleury". Here, she offers family vintages and organic and biodynamic wines. She also represents the estate at wine fairs and tastings throughout the country and abroad.

The Fleury family is always looking for the best quality for their wines with a unique character. They work with their own terroir yeasts, carefully selected to achieve 100% organic traceability. International awards are given to the house wines every year.
