The winemaker

The history of Champagne Duval-Leroy

In 1859, Armand Edouard Leroy decided to produce and market champagne and joined forces with a local winemaker, Jules Duval. Henri, Jules Duval's son, married Louise Eugénie Leroy, Edouard's daughter, and the Duval-Leroy Champagne house was born. The first heir of this great family was Raymond, born in 1886.

To conquer not only Europe, but also the United States, Champagne Duval-Leroy decided to take part in all the World's Fairs of the time, and the strategy worked perfectly. As early as 1888, Champagne Duval-Leroy won the medal of honor at the International Wine Competition in Barcelona.

In 1911, Raymond created a "fleur de champagne premier cru" cuvée, made exclusively from grands crus and premiers crus. His intention was to capitalize on the enthusiasm generated by the creation in 1911 of the champagne crus scale.

Each of the world wars destroyed the vineyard, and each time, the family replanted the vineyard. In 1950, Charles Roger Duval-Leroy took up the torch and tackled the daunting task of reconstituting the vineyard, particularly on the Montagne de Reims.

The Champagne Duval-Leroy vineyard

Champagne Duval-Leroy cultivates 200 hectares. The land is located on parcels classified as "grand cru" or "premier cru". Since the 1990s, sustainable development has been an integral part of Champagne Duval-Leroy's cultivation strategy. The first organic cuvée was born, thanks to organic vineyard management and ecological winemaking methods.
