The winemaker
Five generations of winegrowers have worked on this estate, founded in 1822, which boasts 15 hectares of vines spread over 31 parcels of predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier (50% and 40% of the vineyard respectively). It is precisely these parcels, in the best terroirs, that give Bauget-Jouette champagnes their distinctive character. For example, Blanc de Blancs 2008, a blend of grand cru chardonnay, expresses itself with extremely fine bubbles. On the palate, we find aromas of pear and toast, with a spicy finish. The Grande Réserve, more focused on candied fruit, is a powerful, rich wine with pleasant length. Cuvée Jouette (a tribute to Suzanne Bauget, née Jouette, who represented the brand for over sixty years) is made from the finest terroirs in the vineyard. A blend of 50% pinot noir and 50% chardonnay, this wine is pale in color, with aromas of white flowers on the nose, and candied fruit on the palate, with pinot noir expressing itself in the most beautiful way.
