Appellation Vougeot
The Vougeot AOC, land of Premiers Crus
The Vougeot appellation is a Villages appellation of the Côte-de-Nuits. Its 15 hectares are located in the commune of Vougeot, which takes its name from a small river, the Vouge. 4 Climats of the appellation are classified Premiers Crus: Clos Blanc, Les Cras, Les Petits Vougeots and Clos de la Perrière.
The pinot noir and chardonnay, the appellation's grape varieties, benefit from a temperate oceanic climate, and mostly calcareous and marly soils.
Characteristics of Vougeot wines
.AOC Vougeot red
The red Vougeots have a dark purple or purple coat. One detects scents of violet, morello cherry and blackcurrant in the youth. With the years, the nose reveals parfumes of undergrowth, truffle and dead leaf. The palate is characterised by fine tannins, a balance between fat and controlled acidity, and a liquorice finish. We choose dishes with intense flavours to accompany a red Vougeot. Roast poultry, roast lamb and game are all tasty dishes that make good matches. One can also turn to spicy dishes, such as couscous. With cheese, Vougeot is ideal with Reblochon.
AOC Vougeot white
Vougeots white wines have a very pale gold colour, sometimes greying. The nose has floral notes, with acacia and honeysuckle, as well as mineral notes. Mango can sometimes be sensed. With time, the wine offers scents of amber, quince, fig, and gingerbread. On the palate, the wine is dry, full-bodied, quite opulent. For food and wine pairings, Vougeot is the ally of delicate shellfish such as lobster or crawfish. It also goes well with fish, poultry and sweetbreads.
