It's impossible to talk about domaine emmanuel rouget without mentioning henri jayer. Emmanuel Rouget, the current owner, is none other than the nephew of the legendary Burgundy winemaker, who played a major role in creating the estate before entrusting it to him. Initially a tenant farmer in Vosne-Romanée for Madame Noirot-Camuzet, who owned the land at the time, Henri Jayer took over the running of the vineyards and vinification of Cros Parantoux in 1945, in exchange for half the harvest. Gradually, he bought up shares in the vineyard and became the majority owner. He produced his first 100% cros parantoux wines in 1978. Today, the jayer family owns 0.715 ha of cros parantoux, and domaine méo-camuzet the remaining 0.295 ha. henri jayer's wines quickly became a benchmark for the côtes-de-nuit. Forced to retire, henri jayer began delegating the running of his domaine in 1996, producing his last vintage in 2001. When his nephew emmanuel rouget took full charge of the famous cros parantoux. Henri Jayer died in 2006. In Côte de Nuits as in Côte de Beaune, the 2018 vintage will set a new benchmark, and may well do so in the future.
