Les Malconsorts is an exceptional Premier Cru of Vosne-Romanée. We are fortunate to own 1.75 hectares of this jewel, in the immediate vicinity of mythical parcels (as the crow flies, Romanée-Conti is less than 400 meters away and Richebourg less than 600!). Our venerable 35- to 40-year-old vines face east-south-east, on rengaines limestone soil. As with all Domaine du Clos Frantin vines, it's all about listening to the terroir. For Malconsorts, this means first and foremost adapting to the specificity of a micro-climate with a particular earliness. The name "Malconsorts" suggests that these lands must have been the object of quarrels between "mauvais consorts" - from the Latin CONSORS "in community of property". These were litigants with a common interest in a lawsuit. The prefix Mal- specifies that these people acted badly in relation to the land they held in community of property.
