Recognized in 1998 and named a year later, Viré-Clessé is the first communal appellation to be created from outstanding terroirs within the AOC Mâcon-Villages. Viré and Clessé are two communes in southern Burgundy, located between Tournus and Mâcon. As the typicity of their wines is very similar, they have opted for a single appellation. The appellation covers 406.65 ha.
