The winemaker
Passionate and demanding since the 13th century
Since 1994, when they took over from Raymond Dureuil, Vincent Dureuil and his wife have managed the estate with passion and high standards. The passionate, motivated and talented couple now manage the estate using organic viticulture: limited yields, meticulously calculated planting densities... The grapes are harvested by hand, a rarity in the Rully appellation. The couple's commitment to a "peasant culture" guarantees that they will pass on a healthy vineyard to future generations. The Dureuils have created a distinctive style that highlights each terroir. They have raised their cuvées to the pinnacle of quality: some compare them to certain Côte de Beaune wines. No wonder the Revue du Vin de France voted him Winemaker of the Year in 2019.
The Rully appellation: dominant on this estate
The AOC Rully, whose origins date back to 1939, is located within the eponymous village. This terroir produces both white (Chardonnay) and red (Pinot Noir) wines (Village and Premiers Crus). The nuances between Rully wines can be explained by differences in exposure and altitude. Terroir also has a major influence: Pinot Noir soils are brown or calcareous with a slight clay texture, while Chardonnay soils are clay-limestone. More than twenty cuvées between Burgundy, Rully, Puligny-Montrachet, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Mercurey.
The domaine offers red and white wines.
Red wines come in three appellations: Bourgogne (Passetoutgrain and Rouge), Rully Rouge ("Rully rouge, Rully Rouge "En Guesnes", Rully Rouge "Maizières"), Rully Rouge Premier Cru ("Chapitre", "La Fosse" and "Les Clous"), Mercurey Rouge and Nuits-Saint Georges ("Rouge" and Rouge Premier Cru "Les Argillières"). All red wines undergo a precise vinification and ageing process: grapes pass through two sorting tables after harvesting, manual de-stemming, ageing in barrels (a third of which are new), finishing in stainless steel vats.
Burgundy (Bourgogne Aligoté and Bourgogne Blanc), Rully Blanc ("Rully Blanc", "Rully Blanc Maizières", "Rully Blanc Chêne"), Rully Blanc Premier Cru ("Le Meix Cadot", "Le Meix Cadot Vieilles Vignes", "Margotés", "Vauvry", "Chapitre", "Grésigny Vieilles Vignes") and Puligny-Montrachet (Blanc "Corvée des Vignes" and Blanc Premier Cru "Les Champs Gains") are the appellations under which white wines are produced.
The Domaine Dureuil-Janthial white wines are aged in barrels (a quarter of which are new), then transferred to stainless steel tanks at the end of the ageing process.
