The winemaker

In 1980, he decided to embark on the adventure of planting or acquiring vines to try and secure a future for his three sons. He became a member of the Cave Coopérative Chablisienne and, in 1981, harvested his first crop of grapes in the Chablis vineyards. In 1982, in the midst of the Chablis appellation crisis, he planted new vines, always with his boys in mind! In 1985... Eric, the eldest, joined him in becoming a Chablisienne winemaker and planted his first vines, which he harvested in 1988. Realizing that it was difficult to acquire new land in the Chablis region, they decided together to restore the Tonnerrois vineyard, which had been threatened with extinction between 1870 and 1890 by the ravages of phylloxera... In 1987, they planted their first vines in Tonnerre, and Chardonnay took root around the town. In 1990, Emmanuel joined them to continue renovating the vineyard as a family, but he preferred to market Bourgogne Tonnerre (click to read the article) in bottles, which until then had been marketed as must (at the Cave Coopérative). Bernard, Eric and Emmanuel each own their own vineyard, but make all decisions together. In 1991, the two brothers pooled their resources through an integral CUMA, which invested in various items of equipment (high-clearance tractor, press, vats, delivery vehicle and building). 1993... Bernard Dampt retires to make way for his sons. In 1998, Hervé Dampt joined his brothers in taking over his father's former farm. In 2003, at a time when the estate was growing rapidly, the Dampt brothers formed their first partnership (Sceva Dampt Frères) with their neighbor Jacky Poussière, himself a winegrower, who wished to cease his activity sooner or later. The Earl Dampt-Dupas was created in 2005 with Mrs. Dupas, bringing to the estate mainly the Chablis 1er Cru "Fourchaume" and the Grand Cru "Les Preuses". In 2006, with a view to pooling manpower, the Groupement d'Employeurs de la Grande Côte was created, with each company being a member. Today, we cultivate around 60 hectares of vines in Tonnerre and Chablis, and sell around 500,000 bottles a year to a varied clientele (private customers, wine merchants, restaurants, supermarkets, export to the UK, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ukraine, Russia, Ireland, Germany, Albania, Switzerland, the USA, etc.). Combining tradition and modernity, our aim is to produce quality, well-balanced wines capable of satisfying the tastes of a wide range of consumers, whether amateurs or connoisseurs, and of producing wines typical of the terroir... A fine family story!...
