The winemaker

History

Let's go back a few decades and find ourselves on June 30, 1931. Thanks to a hundred or so Buxy winegrowers, the winery was born and appeared to everyone as the solution to many problems. Indeed, in southern Burgundy, many were facing difficulties in their trade, particularly in winemaking, storage and marketing.
Everyone was determined to make this cooperative work, even if it took a great deal of perseverance.

Victim of its success, the Vignerons de Buxy winery, which received all its members' harvests, also experienced storage problems. Some wine was even stored in tank wagons at the Buxy station. A surreal scene, no doubt, but one that saved time as the cellar gradually expanded in the 1940s, making storage easier.

In 1968, management of the cooperative fell to Roger Rageot, the first director elected by the Board of Directors. The structure changed, but the challenge remained the same: to offer the best from Buxy's winegrowers.

And this desire continues to this day, as very recently (2013), the cooperative committed itself to a sustainable development approach, which incidentally culminated in 2020, earning the title of Vignerons Engagés.

Together, we go further...

More than just committed winemakers, it's decisions and investments that forge this cooperative's reputation. 2019 saw the inauguration of a new tasting room (Maison Millebuis), demonstrating to all the vocation of Vignerons de Buxy to also offer ever more surprising wine tourism services. But that's not all: winemaking methods have also improved, with recent installations (new barrels, new vats, larger cellars, etc.), in line with the cooperative's ambitions.

Ambitions that have remained unchanged since 1931, based on 3 precise criteria: People at the heart of the project, innovation and wine quality. Vignerons de Buxy boasts some 200 winegrowers from the Mâconnais and Côte Chalonnaise regions, covering 1,100 hectares, who are all committed to revealing the potential of their terroirs, which are as varied as they are qualitative. Vignerons de Buxy is therefore a cooperative with unique know-how, made up of many generations who have passed on the best viticultural practices to each other.

All these family-run operations (20 hectares on average) enable the winery to sell around 7 million bottles a year, all over the world!

The appellations represented are prestigious: Montagny, Givry, Mercurey, Rully.... A range of Premier Cru wines to delight all wine lovers.
