Vinzelles, a toponym of Latin origin, vincella (cellar), has been renowned for its vineyards since Roman times. In the Middle Ages, the present-day commune was the seat of two seigneuries, Vinzelles and Laye, the first of which dates back to the 11th century and is one of the oldest in the Mâconnais. The 50-hectare Pouilly-Vinzelles vineyard, planted exclusively with Chardonnay grapes, stretches across the communes of Vinzelles and Loché, extending the limestone hillsides of Chaintré and Fuissé.
