Appellation Montagny
AOC Montagny, 49 climats classified Premiers Crus
The Montagny appellation, in the Côte Chalonnaise vineyards, covers 350 hectares spread over the communes of Montagny, Buxy, Jully-lès-Buxy and Saint-Vallerin. It has 49 climats classified Premiers Crus, representing more than 210 hectares, including Les Macles, Les Resses, Sainte-Morille and Vignes du Soleil.
The white wines of Montagny are made only from chardonnay. The vines enjoy good southern, south-eastern exposures and an oceanic climate. The soils of the AOC are mainly marl and limestone.
The white wines of the AOC Montagny
These white wines have a colour fairly typical of Burgundian chardonnay, golden, fairly clear and limpid, with green highlights running through.
The nose is floral with acacia, honeysuckle and hawthorn, followed by violets and fern. Scents of lemongrass, and gunflint are quite common. Depending on the vintage, the nose may reveal notes of hazelnut, honey, pear and peach.
On the palate, Montagny is fresh, delicate, with a solid structure and a slightly spicy finish. These white wines go wonderfully with fish, poelle or plancha, seafood in a cassolette au gratin or even paellas. With cheese, we opt for goat's cheese, Beaufort or Comté.
