Michel Guignier

Les Améthystes, Michel Guignier's domaine, is located in Villié-Morgon, in the heart of the Beaujolais region. Michel Guignier set up his own domaine in 1989 with just 3 hectares, then expanded it over the years. Too often reduced to Beaujolais Nouveau, the vineyard in fact harbors much more diversity in its predominantly red production. Find out more

The winemaker

Michel Guignier: the characteristics of his terroir and vineyard

The Beaujolais vineyards adjoining Burgundy have long been attached to their imposing neighbor. Yet Beaujolais has its own character. The Gamay grape is the exclusive grape variety of Beaujolais. Beaujolais inherited it when its neighbor Burgundy diversified into red grape varieties. Over 90% of Beaujolais production is red. Whites are rare and rosés almost non-existent.

The wines of Domaine Michel Guignier

Domaine Michel Guignier is organically grown. The estate's wines are aged in oak barrels. The purity of the red wine may come as a surprise at first. Michel Guignier wines are light and fresh. They have a very pronounced fruity taste. They should be drunk young.
