The winemaker

Descended from a family of tinkers from Boppard in the Rhineland, Jean Adam REITZ came to Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy in 1793, and perpetuated the tradition in the wine trade. His great-grandson, Paul REITZ, a winegrower in Nuits-Saint-Georges, decided to settle in CORGOLOIN, and founded the company in 1882, while retaining the vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune acquired by his father Philippe and grandfather Louis. Four more generations followed. Michel REITZ, the current managing director, is today assisted by his 2 sons. For eight generations, we have been working closely with estates in every region of Burgundy, selecting our wines with the utmost precision to guarantee the highest quality in the making of our wines, while preserving the origin of each terroir for each appellation. We select, blend, age and market our wines with the greatest respect for the traditions and know-how handed down from father to son. All our wines are aged for a minimum of 8 months in vats for the Régionales, 12 to 14 months for the Villages and 18 months for the Premiers Crus and Grands Crus in 2-year-old French oak barrels; this is to ensure that the wood does not leave too much of a mark on the wines, and to preserve the elegant, fruity aromas of Pinot Noir.
