The winemaker

The history of the winery

The adventure of the family business began as early as 1826, with Louis Henry Jadot's purchase of Clos des Ursules, an exceptional Premier Cru parcel in Beaune.
With his trading activities in Northern Europe, he made a major contribution to the reputation of Burgundy wines, before founding his own winery in 1859. His descendants went on to run the company for several generations.
The estate grew over the years, with Jean Baptiste Jadot acquiring plots on emblematic terroirs such as Corton Charlemagne, Corton Pougets and Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles in 1900.
In 1945, Louis Auguste Jadot's partnership with Rudy Kopf gave the winery a new lease on life. This partnership enabled Louis Jadot wines to be exported to the United States and England. In 1954, Louis Auguste Jadot chose André Gagey as his deputy to run the company with him.
In 1985, the Jadot family sold the business to the Rudy Kopf family. Since 1992, the winery has been run by Pierre-Henry Gagey. He has been assisted by his son Thibault since 2014.

The estate

The company's facilities are made up of unique locations, such as the cellar built in the 16th century or the monumental cuverie in Beaune.
In keeping with Burgundy tradition, the domaine practices single-vineyard viticulture to promote the expression of the personality and specific characteristics of each grape variety. The estate's grape varieties are typically Burgundian: Chardonnay and Aligoté for the whites, Pinot Noir and Gamay for the reds.

The wines

Maison Louis Jadot produces numerous parcel-based cuvées in village and regional appellations, as well as Premiers Crus and Grands Crus in Chablis, Côtes de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.

Among the very many wines produced by Maison Louis Jadot, let's mention for example the Pommard Premier Cru Le clos de Commaraine, vintage 2014 Louis Jadot, a cuvée hailed by international experts. This is an elegant, aromatic and powerful red wine, with aromas of blueberry, blackcurrant and a floral note of iris. It's an ideal wine to enjoy with red meat, game or good cheese.

Let's also mention the Meursault vintage 2018 Louis Jadot, ranked among Burgundy's finest white wines. It's a fresh, balanced wine to drink young. It offers aromas of ripe white-fleshed fruit with toasty notes.
