The winemaker
The producer
Now owned by businessman Stanko Subotic, Maison Louis Max has been working to produce exceptional wines under the direction of Jean François Joliette since 2007. Surrounded by an experienced team and assisted by a renowned technical director since 2014, David Duband, Maison Louis Max produces organic wines of excellence.
Exceptional terroirs
In Burgundy, the vineyards extend over prestigious appellations such as Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, Aloxe-Corton and Nuits-Saint-Georges. In Mercurey, the estate also holds a monopoly on Clos de La Marche, Premier Cru Les Vasées and Les Caudroyes. Louis Max also owns exceptional terroirs in Rully in the Corbière appellation, Château Pech-Latt, and in the Côtes du Rhône appellation, Domaine de la Lyre.
A committed organic viticulture
The vineyard is fully certified by Ecocert and produces quality organic wines that respect terroirs and soils. The Louis Max house has been committed to organic farming since the 90s, and has been a real forerunner in the field.
The teams use horses for ploughing and only natural fertilizers and indigenous yeasts. Everything is done to limit human intervention as much as possible at every stage of wine production and vine cultivation.
The wines
Louis Max Pommard is a red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes typical of the appellation. It's an elegant, well-balanced wine with a rich, very fruity aromatic bouquet. There are notes of pepper, leather and chocolate.
The cuvée Domaine Louis Max - Mercurey Les Rochelles millésime 2014 is a fresh, crisp white, with aromas of pineapple, apple and pear. It was awarded the Burgondia gold medal in 2016. Made from 100% Chardonnay grown on clay-limestone soils, it benefits from traditional vinification and is aged in barrels for a year. Enjoy it with fish, shellfish or white meats, or as an accompaniment to certain cheeses.
Louis Max Côte de Nuits-Villages 2018 is a red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. It goes wonderfully with spicy dishes, red meats or game, but also blue-veined cheeses.
Louis Max Mercurey Vieilles Vignes 2018 is a gourmet, balanced wine with vanilla and cherry aromas. Made from the estate's best vines, it benefits from all the House's expertise with traditional vinification followed by oak barrel ageing. Ideal with white meats cooked in cream sauce or roasted red meats.
