The winemaker

The history of Maison Jean Bouchard

Maison Jean Bouchard was historically based in Bordeaux. In 1926, it was approached by the famille Bichot, a Burgundy wine house, which was looking for a branch to trade in the Bordeaux region.

By 1955, business was booming, and the Bichot family took advantage of the situation to buy out Maison Jean Bouchard, which nevertheless retained its name. Since the early 2000s, Maison Jean Bouchard has considerably expanded its offer, notably through numerous partnerships with other Burgundy estates.

Maison Jean Bouchard is thus established as a vigneron négociant. It has developed the habit of buying grapes and must in fresh harvests. To optimize the quality of its production, Maison Jean Bouchard works with a team of oenologists led by Alain Serveau.

Between 70% and 90% of the wines sold by Maison Jean Bouchard are vinified in-house. It multiplies regional appellations that are vinified in a winery dedicated to them: Bourgogne, Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune, etc.

The Maison Jean Bouchard vineyard

Maison Jean Bouchard is associated with the Albert Bichot family, which has established itself on 4 emblematic Burgundy estates:

- Chablis on 65 hectares;
- Nuits-Saint-Georges on 16 hectares;
- Pommard on 17 hectares ;
- Mercurey on 4.5 hectares.

Maison Jean Bouchard works with the three grape varieties typical of Burgundy wines.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir contributes to the production of Burgundy's great red wines. Its purplish-black berries add complexity to the wine, as well as a silky texture. Its fine, elegant aromas stand the test of time, making it ideal for ageing.

Pinot Noir gives off aromas of red fruits, including strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant. As it ages, it reveals flavors of tobacco, leather, mushroom, licorice and undergrowth.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the source of Burgundy's great white wines. Its golden-yellow bunches produce medium-sized, rather elongated fruit.

Chardonnay reveals exceptional aromatic power, giving rise to wines whose subtle, noble aromas evoke hazelnut, fresh butter, toast and toasted almond.

Aligoté

Aligoté is a typical Burgundy grape variety. It contributes to the production of fruity, fresh and particularly lively wines. It also contributes mineral notes.
