In a few words ...

Jacques-marie duvault married sophie blochet in 1817. Established in Santenay, he was an owner-grower, wine merchant and general councillor for the Côte d'Or. Renowned for his work in oenology, he is one of the most remarkable figures in Burgundy. His life's dream: in 1869, at the age of 79, he acquired the Romanée-Conti estate. On his death, the vineyard, like the rest of the vast estate he had built up, remained in the family, divided in half but undivided between his daughters claudine-constance massin and henriette dupuis. Widowed in 1883, claudine-constance gave her share to her daughter gabrielle chambon, who in turn gave it to her aunt henriette dupuis (1885). On henriette's death (1887), with no direct heirs, the vineyard passed to her sister and nieces. It then became the property of two descendants: jacques chambon and his sister marie-dominique gaudin de villaine née chambon, children of gabrielle chambon and great-grandchildren of jacques-marie duvault-blochet. The gaudin de villaine family continues to own half of the société civile du domaine de la romanée-conti: successively. Edmond, henri aubert, represent the families
