The winemaker
History
Domaine Parigot has a rather singular history. In the 1950s, a winemaker by the name of Georges Parigot cultivated a small area of vines. He managed to acquire a tractor-stacker, which was very rare in those days, to make his work easier. With increased efficiency, he was soon able to expand the estate.
In 1959, he bought his first parcel in Pommard and began to vinify his own wines. He also began selling his own bottles, and consequently expanded his marketing activities. In 1968, his son Régis joined him in the winemaking adventure, and together they acquired another plot in Pommard in the locality known as "Les Vignots".
Purchases followed 10 years later with new parcels: Pommard "Les Charmots", Meursault "Les Vireuils" (1979), Beau 1er Cru "Les Grèves" (1982). With this expansion came the move of the winery to the entrance of the village of Meloisey, in the heart of the Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune. They took the opportunity to install a modern winery for wine production, in line with their objectives.
By 1990, the region's wines were increasingly represented on the shelves of wine merchants, particularly from abroad. Several exporters knocked on Domaine Parigot's door in the hope of selling its wines abroad. These new markets led father and son to acquire new plots: Pommard "Les Epenots" (1994), Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos-Saint-Jean" (1996) and Pommard 1er Cru "Clos de la Chaniere" (1999).
The third generation
In 2004, the third generation arrives with Régis's son Alexandre. With the same passion as his predecessors, he cultivates the vines with the sole aim of pushing quality a little further with each vintage. Alexandre will say that honesty, rigor and passion were passed on to him by his parents.
It's with this vision that he brings his touch to the 18-hectare domaine today, following the purchase in 2005 of two new parcels in Meursault and Pommard. The domaine has since built up a strong reputation in the following appellations: Pommard, Meursault, Volnay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Savigny-les-Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Alexandre takes the wines to the next level every year, revealing the potential of the chardonnay (3 hectares) and pinot noir (15 hectares) in his cuvées.
These cuvées are sent around the world for tasting, and 120,000 bottles are sold to wine merchants, restaurants and importers abroad. Inside these bottles, you'll find not only a story, but also a laborious year-round job in the vineyards. Alexandre Parigot takes great care of the vines, which are cultivated using integrated viticulture methods.
