Emmanuel Guillot and his brother Patrice continue their father's dream at Domaine Guillot-Broux. Located in Cruzille, Burgundy, the domaine was created in the 1970s. But make no mistake, this recent creation does not symbolize the Guillot-Broux family's long history and experience in the vineyard. Let's discover this estate, recognized as one of the benchmarks in the Mâconnais. Find out more

The winemaker

History

Between the Guillot-Broux family and wine, it's a true love story!

The estate was created in 1978, but to understand this phenomenon, we need to go back even further. In 1954, grandparents Pierre and Jeannine Guillot built what was to become Burgundy's first organic wine estate. It was not only because of certain encounters but also because of their own convictions that the couple embarked on this experiment, which was new at the time.

They instilled this passion for the vine in their son, Jean-Gérard Guillot, who worked at Domaine de La Chanal in Brouilly. Then, to perfect his experience, he took a trip to the Domaine Bernard-Michelot in Meursault. Thanks to what he had learned from his various tutors, but also from his parents, he bought his first hectare with his wife Jacqueline Broux. Together, they created Domaine Guillot-Broux in 1978.

Hand in hand, they moved towards organic viticulture, finally obtaining certification in 1991, when the label Agriculture Biologique was finally recognized by the French government. It took a few more years for the label to appear on bottles (2005).

Sadly for the family, Jean-Gérard Guillot died in 2008, leaving the estate to his sons. Emmanuel and Patrice were left to fend for themselves, but succeeded brilliantly...

Quantity? No, quality!

Today, they manage a 17-hectare estate, planted in 3 appellations: Burgundy, Mâcon Cruzilles and Mâcon Chardonnay. The plots, carefully chosen by Jean-Gérard Guillot, are optimally located for perfect sunshine, which produces magnificent grapes. The two brothers also benefit from a geology that is particularly interesting for its complexity and diversity. The resulting wines are logically quite different, giving our two winemakers a great deal of freedom.

They continue to work the estate in organic viticulture, avoiding heavy treatments and implementing natural pest control. Green fertilizers are used in the vines. In each of their actions, our protagonists seek to preserve the life of the soil, which helps reveal the characteristics of the terroir.

Moreover, each plot is vinified separately to produce a range of original and pleasing wines. The grapes are harvested by hand to select only the very best, and quality is given priority over quantity both in vinification and in the vineyards (with appropriate green harvesting). If a vintage from a particular plot doesn't seem up to scratch, it will be blended with the house's "petites cuvées".

Domaine Guillot-Broux is undoubtedly the vineyard to visit in the Mâconnais region. The Guide de la Revue du Vin de France was right to award the domaine a star, judging it to be a benchmark in the wine world...
