We're in Marsannay-la-Côte, a village in the Côte d'Or region that's home to Domaine du Vieux Collège. This family-run estate has been passed down for seven generations. Its 25 hectares are spread over the communes of Marsannay, Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin. Eric Guyard, at the helm of the domaine since 2006, has inherited the family's primary preoccupation: producing top-quality wines. Find out more

The winemaker

Heritage of passion

Eric Guyard, before taking over the farm in 2006, studied at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune and then worked alongside his parents for twelve years. He thus acquired the techniques used by previous generations and put into practice the knowledge acquired during his training. The fact that he had to take over the estate was obvious: Eric Guyard is passionate about his terroir. Today, the estate covers 25 hectares, compared with 13 in 1993, Eric Guyard having bought and leased new plots. Such an increase in surface area has necessitated changes to the buildings: the main building is now dedicated to vinification and ageing, while the second is reserved for bottle storage and order preparation.

Environmentally-friendly work in step with nature

At Domaine du Vieux Collège, we work with four grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Marsannay, Chardonnay and Aligoté. Annual replanting is carried out (replacing dead vines). Here, the fruit has time to develop to optimum ripeness. Eric Guyard has chosen parcel-based cuvées. When it comes to working the soil, no chemicals or fertilizers are used to preserve biodiversity. Only Bordeaux mixture is used if necessary. Since the 2014 vintage, Domaine du Vieux Collège has been certified organic and produces only organic wine. On the estate, manual labor takes precedence at every stage, to respect the vines and optimize the quality of the wines.

The range of wines produced by the estate

Domaine du Vieux Collège produces its wines under various appellations. In "Bourgogne", the domaine offers a red wine (Pinot Noir) whose nose opens with red and black fruits evolving on peppery and undergrowth nuances. The Bourgogne Blanc (Chardonnay) is aromatic, with hints of white flowers and flint. Bourgogne Aligoté", fruity or foral, can be enjoyed on its own or in a kir. Crémant de Bourgogne" expresses the balance between aromatic power and lightness. Under the "Fixin" appellation, the domaine produces red wines (Pinot Noir grape variety) and white wines (Chardonnay grape variety). The bouquet of this appellation ranges from floral and fruity to musky and peppery. The "Gevrey-Chambertin" appellation produces red wines (including a Premier Cru) made from Pinot Noir grapes. Red wines in this appellation have aromas of strawberry, blackberry, violet and reseda, while more mature wines open with a bouquet of licorice, leather and undergrowth. The Marsannay appellation is available in all three colors. The Red (with its bouquet of red and black fruits) and Rosé (a soft, fruity wine) are made from Pinot Noir grapes, while the White (with its aromas of citrus and white flowers) is made from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
