The winemaker

Domaine des Pierres Rouges is located in Chasselas, 15 km from Mâcon, Prefecture of Saône et Loire, and 70 km from Lyon. To bring out the best in the existing terroir, all the soil has been ploughed since the end of 1999, one row in two, to avoid the use of herbicides as much as possible. The other row is naturally grassed with ryegrass, then mowed with a high-clearance tractor. With the aim of producing terroir-driven wines, this method of cultivation allows airy trellising and limits yields through natural practices. (45 - 50 hl per hectare). Depending on the plot, the grapes are harvested by hand when they have reached perfect maturity, and vinified in a specific way for old vines over 45 years old, and, for the other vines, harvested with harvesting machines for optimum respect of the youngest plantations.
