The winemaker

An identity through history

The first traces of Domaine de l'Arlot's history date back to the end of the 18th century, thanks to archives that attest to the presence of Jean-Charles Vienot, heir to a long line of Burgundian owners. Management of the estate then changed hands when it was acquired by the merchant Jules Belin.

These descendants then sold it to AXA Millésimes in 1987. Since then, the company has continued to develop the estate, respecting tradition and the local terroir, with illustrious Burgundy winemakers such as Jean-Pierre de Smet, Jacques Devauges and Géraldine Godot at its helm.

Géraldine Godot, who was born in Burgundy and trained in microbiology and oenology, now runs the estate. She religiously perpetuates the winemaking tradition and affirms the estate's unchanged identity down the centuries.

A prestigious and respected terroir

The Domaine de l'Arlot vineyard extends over 14 hectares, on limestone, marl and silt soils typical of the region. These soils are ideal for vine-growing, as they are rich in the nutrients required for the growth of vines and berries. What's more, Burgundy's varied climates offer a multiplicity of ecosystems influencing the types of wines produced. The estate's vineyards have been managed according to organic farming principles since 2000, and were certified in 2014.

These methods have been supplemented by biodynamic practices since 2003, in order to return to more traditional techniques that respect the vines. Géraldine Godot, Technical Director, is perfectly in tune with these principles and applies them to the letter. During the following stages, the product is just as respected thanks to a spontaneous, low-intervention winemaking process. It's all about going with your gut feeling to create wines that are representative of the house. Finally, maturation is monitored to ensure that the cuvées follow the path of excellence - a successful gamble!

Varied, high-quality cuvées

Domaine de l'Arlot has two monopoly wines: Clos de l'Arlot and Clos des Forêts. The first, vinified as a white, offers original, seductive notes with hints of toast and lemon. The second, vinified as a red, seduces with its power, elegance and flavors of blueberries and wild strawberries.

The other cuvées, both red and white, enable the estate to cover a large number of the region's prestigious appellations, always with finesse but with a strong character and long ageing potential, just like the greatest.
