The winemaker
A rich family history
The story of Domaine d'Ardhuy began in 1927, when Pierre André bought his first parcel of Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy, then acquired the legendary Clos des Langres in 1939. He is none other than the father of Éliane André, future wife of Gabriel d'Ardhuy. The two met during the 1947 harvest, and it was their union that led to the creation of Domaine d'Ardhuy.
Gabriel strove to carry on the family tradition begun by his father-in-law, gradually acquiring a variety of prestigious plots such as Clos Vougeot, while at the same time preserving the ecosystem of the vineyard. The couple passed on the management of the estate to their seven daughters, raised with a passion and respect for the vineyards, who have proudly taken up the torch and continue the house's tradition of excellence.
A varied expression of terroirs
Thanks to the plurality of appellations offered by Domaine d'Ardhuy, the Burgundy estate is able to offer its wine-lovers a wide range of aromas. In fact, as the owner of several parcels, these are subject to specific and unique geological and climatic conditions that greatly influence the style of the wines produced.
From the floral, buttery notes of Puligny-Montrachet, to the powerful, smoky flavors of Pommard, to the gourmet, forest-fruit aromas of Gevrey Chambertin, it's easy to see how the family makes the most of rich terroirs. The vineyard, planted exclusively with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is the subject of daily work combining quality know-how and rigorous study of growing conditions.
The ultimate expression of the typicity of Domaine d'Ardhuy's many terroirs ultimately lies in the integrated viticulture implemented by the family since the 2010s, which has earned it High Environmental Value Level 3 certification in 2019. Finally, in order to give the wines all the attention they require, vinification is carried out in small vats to ensure individualized monitoring and guarantee that its cuvées are fully adapted to the practices put in place.
A warm welcome
The d'Ardhuy family is not one to keep its treasures to itself, and offers its enthusiasts the chance to discover both the estate's vineyards and its cellars through a history-filled tour allowing the curious to penetrate to the heart of Domaine d'Ardhuy and its legendary Clos des Langres originally planted by the monks of Cluny in the 10th century. This is followed by a tasting of the house wines, depending on the formula chosen: 3 or 5 wines. The house also hosts a variety of receptions, including weddings, christenings and seminars, so don't hesitate to contact us for your events.
