The winemaker

The history of Domaine Chanson

Domaine Chanson represents one of Burgundy's oldest wine producers, located in the historic heart of Beaune. Its winery dates back to the 15th century, and over 80 appellations are matured in its cellars. The estate was founded in 1750 by Simon Véry during the reign of Louis XV. The name Domaine Chanson dates back to the French Revolution.

"La tour des filles" is one of the 5 bastions still standing in Beaune. Built in the early 16th century, it owes its name to the "filles de mauvaise vie" who lived nearby. It has since been renamed the Bastion de l'Oratoire, in homage to the nearby chapel. This is where Domaine Chanson's barrels are stored.

Four levels house the wines. The first three are dedicated to red wine and the fourth, built more recently, in 1826, is reserved for white wine.

In 1999, the estate was taken over by Champagne house Bollinger. Domaine Chanson is run by Gilles de Courcel.

The Domaine Chanson vineyard

The Domaine Chanson vineyard covers 43 hectares, including 30 hectares of reds and 13 hectares of whites. The average age of the vines is 35 years. Average production is 180,000 bottles per year. The estate grows its own vines, but also buys in grapes for vinification in its own cellars. The grape variety for the red wine is Pinot Noir, that for the white wine is Chardonnay.

Domaine Chanson extends over 45 hectares exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus in the most beautiful villages of the Côte de Beaune, in other words, right in the heart of Burgundy. The vineyards are located on parcels whose names are highly evocative for Burgundy wine lovers: Santenay, Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny Les Beaune, Pernand Vergelesses, Corton...

Domaine Chanson has been certified High Environmental Value (HVE) since 2016.
