The winemaker
In the heart of Santenay, Les Maranges and Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Bachey-Legros is a family estate that has been passed down for six generations. The winemakers work with respect for nature and the vines.
The terroir of the southern Côte de Beaune, where limestone plunges into the subsoil and gives way to clayey marl, is as conducive to Pinot Noir as it is to Chardonnay. Domaine Bachey-Legros cultivates 19 hectares of vines between Chassagne-Montrachet and Les Maranges, and produces both colors. The Domaine Bachey-Legros vineyard covers 18 hectares. Most of the vines were planted between 1935 and 1955. The winemakers give pride of place to these old vines, which have low yields but produce highly concentrated grapes.
Old vines are the richness of the domaine. In red, the Santenay 1er cru "Clos Rousseau" is colorful, robust on the attack in the mouth, supple on the finish with a concentrated basket of red fruits. The white Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Morgeot", a great terroir of the appellation, offers an attack of citrus zest and a salivating, suave finish. Great art. All Domaine Bachey-Legros wines are considered top-of-the-range. They reveal their terroir at the moment of tasting. They are AOP Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay or Maranges. Several are Premiers Crus. Red wines are 100% Pinot Noir. They are powerful. White wines contain only Chardonnay.
