Discovery of the AOC Côte de Beaune-Villages
The Côte de Beaune-Villages appellation is located in 14 communes of the Côte de Beaune, including Pernand Vergelesses, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Remigny. Each year, the producers choose to give their wines the name of their commune or the Côte de Beaune-Villages appellation. The surface area of the AOC therefore varies each year according to the winegrowers' production choices.
The pinot noir flourishes very well being the only grape variety in the AOC. The vines are exposed to a temperate oceanic climate, with a continental tendency. The terroirs of the appellation are diverse, we find brown limestone soils, marl and sometimes clay.
Characteristics of Côte de Beaune-Villages red wines
The red wines produced in the northern communes of the Côte have a ruby or even light purple colour. The nose is marked by red and black fruit scents, with strawberry, blackberry, blackcurrant and redcurrant, as well as a note of violet. The palate is fresh and supple.
Wines from more southerly vineyards have a deeper, dark ruby colour with purple highlights. The nose also diffuses red fruit scents, accompanied by notes of undergrowth and mushroom. On the palate, the tannins are round, and the power is moderate.
These red wines are a wonderful accompaniment to red meat, especially beef, either in sauce or grilled. The Côte de Beaune-Villages is just as good with beef bourguignon, chili con carne or a simple grilled steak. As for cheeses, this wine is a good match for Epoisses, Saint Marcellin, Tomme de Savoie or Brie de Meaux.
