Appellation Corton

The AOC Corton, great wines of Burgundy

In the vineyards of the Côte-de-Beaune, the AOC Corton extends over the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses. Appellation classified as Grand Cru, the names of the production climates, such as Les Chaumes, Les Renardes, Les Moutottes, Les Grandes Lolières or La Vigne-au-Saint, are found on the bottles.

The vineyard was formerly attached to the abbey of Cîteaux, from the 11th century, the monks took care of it and developed it. We can be grateful today as they have contributed to the creation of some very great wines!

The vineyards cover 92 hectares, 95% of which are occupied by pinot noir, with chardonnay remaining a very small minority. The white wines of the appellation are indeed quite rare.

The vines face south-east, and are planted up to 300 metres above sea level, but the pinot noir is planted more on the mid-slopes, while the chardonnay occupies the upper slopes. All enjoy a continental climate, quite mild, and limestone soils.

Corton, the characteristics of this Grand Cru

In white, the Corton dons a beautiful pale, golden coat with green highlights. The nose is mineral, with flint, and there are also notes of baked apple, butter, cinnamon and fern. The palate is round, elegant, supple, it's a treat.

Enjoy it with fine seafood, crayfish, fish, poultry in cream sauce or goat's cheese.

The red Corton has a purple or dark red colour. The nose is clear on fruits, with blueberry, blackberry, redcurrant and kirsch. Also emerging are notes of violet, pear and undergrowth. With time, the nose develops animal, leather and fur scents. On the palate, it is a full-bodied, powerful wine, which should be kept for a few years before opening.

The red Corton will be sublime with roasted, braised or sauced meats, rather beef or game. With cheeses, one chooses assertive cheeses such as blue, Munster, or Maroilles.
