Clos-de-Vougeot "vieilles vignes" is the grand cuvée of Château de la Tour. On the same shallow brown soils (45 cm) covered with limestone and clay pebbles, the estate's oldest vines, planted in 1910, deliver the quintessence of this grand cru from the Côte de Nuits. It usually takes a decade or so before this cuvée begins to reveal its secrets. Despite the small quantities of grapes produced in 2012, Château de la Tour has produced an exceptional cuvée with full, ripe, more concentrated fruit than the classic cuvée. Its complexity will develop over the course of its life: fruit, spices, then notes of truffle and game. Despite its delicate tannins, this wine was a must-have. 100% pinot noir. Vines planted in 1910, the oldest in the Clos. Total surface area: 6 hectares. Gently sloping hillside facing east. Gravelly, stony soil at the top, clay at the bottom. Only 5,000 bottles per year. Over 75% matured in new barrels. Aged for 35 years.
