The winemaker
Château de Villars Fontaine was created in the early 1970s by Bernard Hudelot, on land that had already been planted with vines since the 11th century. Interestingly, the area had been abandoned due to climatic cooling, these vineyards being located at a slightly higher altitude than the Côte de Nuits. Global warming has restored the 30-hectare terroir to its former glory, and it has been producing fine wines since the 1990s, particularly wines for laying down that are kept at the château. The grapes produced are pinot noir, aligoté, gamay and chardonnay, enabling the domaine to offer both red and white wines, with famous cuvées such as Jiromées, Rouard, or the astonishing Gamay du Futur.
