The winemaker
History of Château de Lavernette
Château de Lavernette shares a fascinating history dating back to 1596. Tradition teaches that vines were an intrinsic part of the seigneury of Lavernette. From one descendant to the next, the de Boissieu family has nurtured the terroir for thirteen generations, ensuring its continuity from one era to the next. Xavier has been the legal dignitary since 2007. He brings the ancestral heritage to life, supported by his wife Kerrie.
A certified natural vineyard
The Château de Lavernette vineyard covers 13 hectares on the borders of the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions. The vineyard is farmed by hand using ancestral techniques. It is fully certified biodynamic, and provides an industrial reserve of 600 bottles on average per year. The planting surface is a controlled combination of red and white grape varieties.
Wines of all ranges
Château de Lavernette is the epitome of mature winemaking. Overall, the red grape variety dominates, concentrating on Gamay noir with its original white juice. The white grape variety is in almost equal proportion, based on natural Chardonnay. The red has a vibrant, invigorating, metallic aroma reminiscent of wood and acetone. Vintages of Château de Lavernette's white wine are lighter and less long-lasting. Both variants are excellent aperitifs for white or red meat.
