Château de la Tour
(2 customer reviews)
A château located in the heart of the prestigious Côte de Nuits, within the walls of Clos Vougeot, the cradle of Burgundy viticulture. This estate was first bottled in the 1930s. The quality of the wines had declined dramatically during the 70s and 80s. But that was before François Labet took over the management of this family estate. Find out more

The winemaker
The birth of Château de la Tour
This Château, built in 1890, owes its birth to the ancestors of two families: Labet and Déchelette. It is located in Vougeot, in the Burgundy vineyards, a small village in a major Côte de Nuits appellation. This appellation cultivates its difference from the others, as it has more grands crus than appellations villages and premiers crus.
At the time, its mission was to house the Clos de Vougeot harvests. Today, it is the only winery to harvest, vinify, mature and bottle on its premises. François Labet has owned the estate and Clos de Vougeot since 1986.
His vineyard
This vineyard of almost six hectares has been certified organic since 1992. Its vines are 50 years old on average, and the sole grape variety is pinot noir. Since 2009, the estate has been advised by Sylvain Pataille for its vinifications. Here, the grapes are harvested by hand and then transported in wicker baskets. This allows the oxidized juice from the burst berries to drain off.
The wine then begins to ferment on its own, thanks to the indigenous yeast present on the grapes. The vineyard's annual production is 22,000 bottles of Cuvée Classique and 3,000 bottles of Cuvé Vieilles Vignes. The "Hommage à Jean Morin" cuvée was created in 2010 to celebrate the centenary of the planting of the estate's old vines.
The Château's wines
There aren't many different wines from Château de la Tour. In fact, the estate produces exclusively Clos de Vougeot grand cru. As mentioned above, you'll find a cuvée vieilles vignes centenaires produced in small quantities, as well as the emblematic cuvée: Hommage à Jean Morin, famous co-founder of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, owner of Clos Vougeot. These two wonderful wines have a rich, complex flavor. The pinot noir reveals all their character and nobility with aromas of spices and black fruits.
All the wines produced by Château de la Tour are among the finest of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. These wines have excellent ageing potential, and should be cellared for at least 10 years. Château de la Tour has become famous in all four corners of the world and enjoys a worldwide reputation.
