Chassagne Montrachet red is much rarer than the white. It offers intense, complex aromas. In its youth, flavors highlight fine tannins and a fine structure. The 1988 vintage is a classic, with an advantage for the Right Bank. Some Pomerols and Saint Emilions eclipsed their 1989 and 1990 younger siblings in elegance. The red wines were very tannic, very colorful, very complex. These are long-ageing wines, which can be expected to develop a fine, powerful bouquet as they age.
