The winemaker
The history of Maison Viticole Antonin Rodet
Clos Antonin Rodet is built around an elegant 17th-century mansion with all the hallmarks of a Burgundian residence. It boasts a well-kept English-style park, old greenhouses, stables and a cellar offering a selection of the estate's wines.
Antoine Rodet, founder of the domaine, saw the potential of the Côte Chalonnaise and dared to invest in vines at a time when the region's vineyards were suffering cruelly from the ravages of phylloxera. Convinced that Burgundy and Mercurey would regain their prestige, he developed his vineyard and estate with rigorous hard work.
His son Antonin followed in his footsteps, promoting the wines of Maison Antonin Rodet using communication methods unheard of at the time. He invested in advertising objects and advertisements. In this way, he enabled the wines of his estate to achieve widespread renown, even internationally. With each succession, the trading house was no longer run by the family, but the visionary spirit of father and son continued to guide the choices of this great Burgundy wine house.
Skills
The methods implemented aim to promote respect for the environment: controlled yields, reasoned and responsible viticulture, terroir-friendly cultivation. Antonin Rodet applies these principles to its estates, but also selects its partner winemakers according to criteria detailed in a quality charter.
In addition, the company has developed the novel concept of "viniculteur", bringing together two fundamental aspects of wine production: viticultural work in the vineyard and work in the cellar and winery. Thus, the face of the House is winemaker Anne Laure Hernette, in charge of creating the cuvées. It is she who is behind the singular signature of Antonin Rodet wines.
The Maison Antonin Rodet estates
The Château de Mercey extends over just under 45 hectares in the south of the Côte de Beaune. Owned by the Berger family for four generations, it was acquired by Antonin Rodet in 1989. The vineyard covers several appellations. For the reds, 22 hectares are in the Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Vignes de Lyre appellations, over four hectares are in Maranges Premier Cru and one hectare is in Santenay. For the whites, nearly seven hectares are also in Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune and 1.6 hectares are in Bourgogne Aligoté.
The Château de Rully has been owned by the de Ternay family since its construction. Antoine Rodet has been operating the vineyard since 1986 and is responsible for the vinification of the wines. It produces mainly white wines, but also reds. The vineyard extends over several Premier Cru appellations, including Rully Premier Cru "La Pucelle", Rully Premier Cru "Clos de la Bressande" and Rully Premier Cru Molesme.
Le domaine de la Bressande is located, like Maison Antonin Rodet, in Mercurey on this ancient and prestigious Burgundian terroir of the Côte Chalonnaise. This winegrowing estate covers over 30 hectares and offers four wines made from Rully and Mercurey appellations, including several Premiers Crus such as "En Sazenay", "Chapitre, or "Préaux".
